Painter/Gel Coat Sprayer/Paint Prep
Marine Concepts/Design Concepts are the Fiberglass Mold Experts in a high quality production environment with specific quality standards to ensure customer satisfaction. We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Gel Coat Technician to join our production team. The Gel Coat Technician is responsible for preparing molds and applying gel coat to fiberglass molds according to established specifications, production schedules, and quality standards.
The successful candidate will take pride in producing a consistent, high-quality finish while working safely and efficiently in a manufacturing environment.
Shift is Sunday - Thursday 10pm - 6:30am. (hours may vary due to production volume).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare fiberglass molds and surfaces for gel coat application.
- Apply gel coat using spray equipment and other approved application methods.
- Properly mix gel coat and catalyst according to established specifications.
- Monitor and adjust catalyst levels as required by environmental and production conditions.
- Maintain proper gel coat thickness, color, coverage, and finish.
- Inspect molds and finished surfaces for defects, imperfections, or inconsistencies.
- Identify and correct issues that could affect product quality.
- Operate, clean, and maintain gel coat spray guns and related equipment.
- Follow established procedures for equipment cleaning and maintenance.
- Move molds and materials safely into and out of gel coat areas as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Properly handle and dispose of chemicals and production materials in accordance with company and safety requirements.
- Follow all required PPE, safety procedures, and environmental guidelines.
- Work closely with Laminating, Finishing, and other production team members to maintain workflow and quality.
- Meet established production schedules and quality expectations.
- Report equipment problems, material concerns, and quality issues to the supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous gel coat, fiberglass, composite manufacturing, painting, or related production experience preferred.
- Experience operating gel coat spray equipment preferred.
- Experience working with polyester or vinyl ester resins and gel coat is a plus.
- Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to recognize differences in color, finish, coverage, and surface quality.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
- Willingness to follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and work in various positions.
- Ability to use hand tools and production equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required by the position.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to chemicals, fiberglass materials, odors, dust, and noise.
- Must be able to wear required respiratory protection and other PPE when required.
Preferred Experience
1–2 years of experience in gel coat application, fiberglass manufacturing, composite manufacturing, automotive painting/bodywork, or a related field is preferred. Marine manufacturing experience is a plus.
